Cetaphil has long been a household name in skincare. It’s made a name for itself over the last 70 years as a gentle skincare range suitable for individuals with even the most sensitive skin. Recently I was sent over a few goodies from Cetaphil’s new releases and I was actually really excited – the launches looked very interesting!
About Cetaphil
The Cetaphil range of gentle, dermatologically tested and pH-balanced products has helped people care for their skin for over 70 years. They have a wide variety of products including moisturisers, cleansing lotions, sunscreens and more.
Different Skin Types:
When it comes to skincare it’s very important to understand your skin type and specific concerns. Many think their skin is dry when it’s actually dehydrated! Knowing your skin type and consequently implementing the right routine will really assist in the condition of your skin in the long term. These products from the new range target a variety of skin types and concerns.
Cetaphil actually have a fantastic blog section on their website. If you’re still unsure as to what skin type you actually have, make sure to check out this article:

Cetaphil Extra Gentle Daily Scrub
One of the standout products for me was the Extra Gentle Daily Scrub. I love this! I think this is a fantastic edition to the Cetaphil range! While I love a good chemical exfoliant, I do tend to grab a physical exfoliant once per week. The Cetaphil Extra Gentle Daily Scrub is a physical exfoliator (made from bamboo particles) and has a really nice texture. It’s almost gel-like and slightly runny.
Adding this Gentle Scrub into my routine was a fabulous edition. The granules are very small and fine, allowing it to exfoliate without aggravating or stripping the skin, leaving it soft and smooth after use. The scrub is suitable for all skin types and is very gentle – so you can exfoliate without leaving the skin irritated.
Cost: A reasonable R 160.00 for a 178ml
Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion
This product is suitable for those with dry / very dry skin, so it’s not a product that I would use normally – it’s very thick and nourishing – too rich for my specific skintype usually. However, as I’ve spoken about on my social media recently my skin has been feeling really dry and sensitive. I think it’s a combination of the Cape Town freezing weather and going for microneedling- my skin felt tight and sensitive. Basically it needed some good TLC and nothing irritating. This sort of product did just the trick!
I liked the formula! Firstly I am super impressed that this has been formulated with hyalauronic acid (for hydration) and found it absorbed really well – it wasn’t nearly as heavy or greasy as I had anticipated. Sometimes creams aimed at dry skin can feel way too thick. For long term use this is a bit too rich for me, but if your skin tends towards being dry – this would definitely be a cream worth checking out! I think it also gets points for it’s very user friendly pump.
Why is Hyalauronic Acid so good for the skin?
Hyaluronic Acid is actually a molecule that occurs naturally in many parts of our body and helps to increase the tissues’ ability to bind water. When we are younger, our bodies are very rich in natural Hyaluronic Acid and are able to replenish it daily. This is why young people have such firm and hydrated skin! (Pfftt..they don’t realise what how lucky they are!!) However, as we grow older we lose the ability to produce enough Hyaluronic Acid. This leads to a loss of water in the skin as well as a loss of volume, ultimately leading to fine lines and wrinkles.
Andddd.. the night cream!
The Cetaphil Rich Night Cream is also formulated with hyaluronic acid and is designed to keep the skin hydrated and soothed throughout the night. It helps to strengthens the skin’s natural moisture barrier to protect it from getting dry. The cream is targeted at normal skin types and is definitely a product that I will continue with my routine.
The cream contains hyaluronic acid, a Pro-Vitamin Complex as well as an Olive Extract. Like the rest of the Cetaphil range, the product is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and fragrance free.
Cam enjoyed the night cream as well. He said it was great to apply after shaving as it’s soothing and non-irritating.
To conclude, this range actually really surprised me. I used Cetaphil on and off growing up and have always known in my mind that this brand is a fantastic one. Trying out this range over the past month has been a fresh reminder of just how much this brand has to offer for people with sensitive skin. It’s extremely gentle, mild and cleansing without stripping. Very glad to have rediscovered this brand!
