So summer is now in full force (especially in Cape Town!) and it’s time to hit the beach. For those of us not hitting the beach, sun exposure is still something we face everyday. Whether we’re sitting outside sipping G&T’s with friends, trying to get in shape and running a 5k or just having that casual beachfront walk we are in the sun more than we realize. Now, if you’re anything like me, even though you know how vital wearing sun protection is, you still cringe at the way it makes your face look when you apply your makeup. Hello shiny face by 12pm! Luckily I came across Eucerin Sun Protection recently and I am just too glad I did.
Introducing Eucerin Sun Protection – your foundations new bestie
The Product: I picked these products up on Clicks amazing 3 for 2 special and my final choices were:
- Sun Fluid Mattifying Face SPF+ for sensitive skin (R220, 95)
- Sun Fluid Anti Age Face SPF 50 for all skin types (R 240,95)
- Transparent Sun Spray SPF body for sensitive skin (R249,50)
Overall Score: 9/10
Does it work? Yes! Because my main quest was a search for facial sunscreen, I won’t be focusing on the Transparent Sun Spray (for body) for this review. But I will say that the transparent spray is absolutely incredible. It is extremely absorbent and smells divine. It doesn’t have the typical sunscreen smell at all (it smells tropical!) and doesn’t leave your skin sticky either. This is definitely a great purchase for your beach bag too!
Price: See above for pricing – I’d definitely recommend getting it on the three for two specials that Dischem and Clicks run often. They actually on 3 for 2 at Clicks at the moment!
Pros: These products work incredibly. Both of the facial sunscreens are extremely absorbent and protect your skin for hours on end. I’ve added a picture below to show you how how my skin looks after I applied foundation – it isn’t shiny at all! Even better it doesn’t have the typical stinky sunscreen smell. Moreover, I’ve applied a second layer after foundation as well and it hardly affected my makeup. I know we should care more about the longevity of our skin but truthfully I do care if my face is a shiny mess.
Also these products:
- Help protect from pigment spots
- Are suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin
- Are suitable for use after minor peeling and laser treatments (if medically advised)
- Contain the natural antioxidant licorice extract is proven to help protect the cells in the deeper epidermal skin layer
So what make these products so amazing??
The Eucerin Sun Protection Fluid Anti-Age and the Sun Fluid Mattifying have a very innovative formula and contain two powerful antioxidants – Licochalcone A and Glycyrrhetinic Acid – which work together to help protect skin from signs of photoageing. Licochalcone A neutralises the free radicals in sunlight that cause oxidative stress and accelerate skin ageing, while Glycyrrhetinic Acid stimulates skin’s own DNA repair mechanisms.
These products protect the skin cells against damage caused by free radicals.
Cons: Unfortunately the cons would be that they are pretty pricey. The Sun Fluid Mattifying bottle doesn’t have a pump so I find wastage easier.
What did I think? Overall I am extremely impressed with these products. My toiletry draw is way too full with half used products and every time I take a trip to mall I feel overwhelmed with the amount of choices I have. I’d seen some reviews on Eucerin Sun Protection products and thought the 3 for 2 special at Clicks was a fantastic opportunity to bag these products. I know that it can seem costly to purchase, but I tell myself that if I’m content and willing to spend several hundred rand on foundations and mascaras, then I should feel okay to spend money on my skin as well. After all, this is the only body you’ll have and it’s going to need to last us a long time.
If I had to choose just one:
If it came down to it and I could choose just one to purchase it would actually be the Sun Fluid Anti Age SPF50 UV-Induced Anti Ageing. It’s actually just as mattifying as the one marketed as a mattifying sunscreen. I love the pump and it also absorbs extremely quickly. I almost found the mattifying one too runny and easy to squeeze out too much product.
All in all these are all three amazing products and I can definitely see myself repurchasing them in the future. As part of my New Years 2018 resolution I’ve committed to a more holistic approach to looking after myself which includes a better skincare regime. What better way than with Eucerin Sun Protection packed conviniently in my bag for each beach visit.
Watch this space for all my other 2018 New Years Resolutions and help keep me accountable on my journey!
Happy 2018 to you all
xx
