BH Cosmetics Haul & first impressions

One of my favorite things since starting my blog has been the exposure to beauty brands I previously didn’t know existed. Shortly after jumping into the blogging world, I started hearing more and more about BH Cosmetics. After browsing through their website, it quickly got added to my “must make a purchase from when I have some $$$” list. Well, a few months ago I finally took the plunge and made my first order. Beauty lovers, is there anything more thrilling than receiving a plainly wrapped package arrived? We all wait in excitement, knowing the magic that awaits inside!

So without further delay, let’s take a look at my first BH Cosmetics haul!

Carli Bybel Deluxe Edition – 21 Color Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette

I’ve wanted this palette since the day I saw Simone from An Ordinary Gal reviewing one on her blog. When I saw the colors I KNEW it was a palette that would suit me and the looks I do on a day to day basis.

I was waiting for it to go on special and I eventually picked it up for $22.50 which I think is very reasonable considering it’s 15 eyeshadows and a stunning highlighter palette. As you can see, it’s a mixture between matte and shimmer eyeshadow shades.

Is this not just the prettiest color combination?

I am really looking forward to creating looks with this palette. Standouts so far are the highlighers – wow!! Talk about glow. The first time I used it I actually used way too much product as it goes really far and I looked a bit shiny. The next time when I used a lot less I thought it gave the most amazing summer shimmer. Another standout is that the eyeshadows are incredibly pigmented and make it so easy to create a dramatic effect.

Brush 36 – Mini Pink Kabuki Brush

Okay this one was a lot smaller than expected (in their fairness it does say mini) but the texture and handle still make it really easy to hold!

For those of you wondering what a kabuki brush is used for, it is to apply loose powdered make-up on large surfaces of the face (e.g., foundation, face powder, blush). Because of its design, the brush blends powdered make up evenly on the skin and creates a very natural looking coverage.

6 Piece Brush Set with Cosmetic Bag

So I’ve been using a very mixed collection of brushes and have lost a few over the years (I’m terrible at my makeup organisation and hopefully will be adding a Beauty Box to my collection soon).  So I thought (Because I had never purchased off their website before) that I’d start by buying a small set to test the quality etc.

The white and gold color combo is just dreamy, right?

Favorite brush so far: Dual Fiber Powder Brush. It transfers product really well and really does give you an airbrushed look. I’ve always had my eye on the Mac 187 Duo Fibre Face Brush (Retails for R600) and it feels like it could be an adequate dupe! But honestly if anyone ever wants to spoil me with the Mac version of this brush I won’t complain.

If you’re wondering more about dual fiber brushes and what they can be used for, this is a great article

BH Party Girl Loose Pigment Eyeshadow in Bring it On

This wasn’t a planned purchase but at $1,99 I thought what did I have to lose? I’m really glad I snuck this into my shopping cart because this eyeshadow has the most amazing shimmer and feels like butter. I’m really looking forward to using this in my makeup looks.

My experience with BH Cosmetics

Bringing anything into South Africa can be both a timely and expensive process but I honestly had a really great first time experience using BH Cosmetics.

Obviously when it comes to purchasing from overseas you need to factor time in- so don’t purchase fake eyelashes for your cousins 21st next Saturday – these items take time to make it to South African shores so one really has to be patient!

So my experience with BH Cosmetics was very pleasant – it came very close to the expected date and all the products were as expected and well packaged. The quality of the products seems great so far!

Also in terms of email correspondence etc – they were tops!

What did it cost?

Subtotal $40.47

Shipping & Handling $12.82

Discount-$7.00 (Shipping Discount – They run these specials often!)

Grand Total (Excl.Tax)$46.29

I also had to pay R25 at the Post Office in duties.

Keep your eyes peeled for full reviews of these products in the new year!

Merry Christmas to all my readers out there xxx

    Hi,

I was wondering approximately how long your order took to be delivered and if you would recommend buying from them directly as opposed to local distributors?

    Thanks

Hi Alizwa, it wasn’t the quickest. I think it was just over a month – maybe 5 weeks or so. And customs was R24:) XXX

Oh shame don’t worry. I also got a little stressed and they don’t have the best communication. But luckily it eventually arrived as was worth the wait xx

    Hi Rachel,

I ordered $76 worth of makeup from BH cosmetics about 2 weeks ago. I’ve never ordered from them before. I put in my home address for the shipping address, will my package be delivered to my door or will it be sent to the nearest post office? I’ve read so many negatives about having to pay R500 plus to receive goods from post office. So gutted, really hope they deliver to my door. So nervous that is doesn’t arrive, it’s broken or I’m going to have to pay ridiculous amounts to recieve it.

      Hi Jade!

Unfortunately when it comes to anything international coming to South Africa-it’s unpredictable 🙁 I’ve had friends who’ve had fantastic experience, and friends who’ve had nightmares! I think my order was around R650 (So over R500) and I paid R25. But i know people who’ve paid around R200 or more in duties.

Sadly as far as I know, they only use the postal service 🙁 I’ve never heard of it coming directly to your door from BH. The home address will just help them to know which post office to send it to you based on your area code.

I REALLY hope everything arrives safe and sound. If it helps, I’ve actually only had positive experiences with the SA post office deliveries so far. Maybe it’s the CT ones though? Everything I’ve ordered has always arrived and been in great condition. But, it does take quite long, so don’t get alarmed – especially this time of year… maybe at least 6 weeks?!

Best of luck and please let me know if it arrives safely?

      Warm regards,
      Rachael
