Transform by night, glow by day with Dermalogica’s Sound Sleep Cocoon

One of the standout brands we have come to know and love in South Africa is Dermalogica. They’ve long been an iconic skincare brand known worldwide for high quality, innovative products that will rejuvenate your skin. So when I received the invitation and heard the buzz about a product that will transform your skin by night and have you glowing by day – I was intrigued! Especially since sleep is something I really, really love to do! Enter the all new product from Dermalogica, Sound Sleep Cocoon.

Dermalogica have been revolutionising the skincare industry since 1986 when they emerged promising products that would be free from common irritants and ingredients that cause breakouts. This includes ingredients such as lanolin, SD Alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colours and fragrances. So each time they launch a new product, we know it’s going to be well-thought out and advanced, designed specifically to combat a targeted area or problem.

One thing Dermalogica sure know how to do is launch events. No detail is spared or forgotten, and everything is executed flawlessly. The launch of their new, exciting product “Sound Sleep Cocoon” was no exception.  When an event is hosted at the gorgeous and regal One and Only at the V&A Waterfront, you know it’ll be a night to remember.As I got to the bottom of the stairs in the entrance hall, glasses of bubbly awaited. Is there anything more whimsical than champagne and fairy lights everywhere? I think not!

Dermalogica partnered with @Home to create a fantasy land of what we all wish our bedrooms looked like. Think mirror topped bedside tables, leather headboards and faux-far rugs all over the show. No detail was spared. Not to mention fancily dressed waiters walking around with champagne top-ups and delicious blue cocktails. My dream bedroom would have those elements too!

Let’s eat

Let’s talk food food food. Beauty products and food are a fantastic combination.  Just the salad bar alone was enough for me. They had every type of garnish, topping and condiment. On the mains side, they had meat from every food group – morrocan lamb, roasted chicken, kingklip and beef, each made to perfection.They had done well to cater to everyone’s different tastes and dietary preferences. Don’t even get me started on the dessert table. !  We’re talking about a buffet of mini lemon meringues, truffles, toffees, cupcakes, chocolate tarts and éclairs. For those with a sweet tooth, One&Only had you covered.

Why all the focus on sleep?

The Dermalogica team laid it all out when it comes to the why. When it comes to your skin care routine, sleep is a crucial component for the skin’s recovery from the assaults of the day. Just missing a few nights of good sleep can lead to dull skin and fine lines! Many individuals all over the world are actually suffering from chronic sleep deprivation which leads to dark circles and early ageing. Dermalogica knows that in today’s increasingly interconnected world, we won’t be getting more sleep anytime soon. So, they decided to create a product that will help combat this problem! And that is where Sound Sleep Cocoon was born.

The first speaker of the night was Lauren Gibson, Cape Town’s regional manager for Dermalogica. She unpacked everything we needed to know specifically about Sound Sleep Cocoon, such as what motivated them to launch it, ingredients and launch information (by the way, it launches TODAY! May 25th. P.S. It also happens to be payday..)  She touched a bit on sleep and why it is so important in relation to skincare and ageing. While we all know that sleep is important, we often don’t understand the relationship between sleep and skincare and how to ensure we are getting enough rest.

Lauren also unveiled some exciting news. To top it off, alongside the product they have even launched a sleep application! The new Sound Sleep Cocoon application puts a restorative night’s sleep right at your fingertips. It has special musical tracks to help you fall asleep!

 She also gave us six tips for a better night’s sleep:

1. Turn off electronics and dim the lights 30 minutes before bedtime
2. Make your room as dark as possible and slightly cool
3. Avoid alcohol, sugar and caffeine before bed
4. Breathe deeply – it helps calm and relax your body
5. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day
6. In the morning, seek out bright light to help regulate your body clock.

We also heard from Anton Fourie who is the Clinical Operations Manager of Fourie & Associates, who specialises in sleep disorders.

I’m planning to continue to keep using the product and write a full indepth review on the product at a later stage. Let’s just say my husband also loves the product as I’ve seen him sneakily using it a few times as well!
