Earlier this week I showed you guys on my Instagram that I’d received a package from Royal Juice which was a one day juice detox. Growing up, I had this notion that juice detoxes were for extreme weight loss measures so I have always approached them with caution. However, over the years I’ve realised that short term juice detoxes are an excellent way to eliminate toxins and give your gut a break. So, I thought I’d share a bit more information with you about the Royal Juice one day detox and my experience with it.
Who is Royal Juice?
Royal Juice is a Cape Town based company specializing in cold-pressed juices that are made from the freshest possible ingredients sourced locally from farms around Cape Town. All their juices are made to order and are raw. This means that they have not undergone any special techniques to extend their shelf life. Why is this important? Because these techniques can cause one to lose a lot of the freshness, taste and nutritional benefits of raw cold pressed juice! The nice thing is that you can also freeze the juices for up to 60 days if you’re having a busy week and juicing will not fit into your schedule.
What was included in my one day juice detox program?
You receive six juices for each day you do the juice detox. The juices should be drank in a particular order for maximum benefit.
What are the benefits of a juice detox?
As mentioned previously, I don’t advocate for using juice detoxes for rapid weight loss. Rather, I think they should be used for toxin elimination and gut reset. These are some benefits of doing a short term juice detox:
- Increased energy levels
- Immunity boost
- Improved digestion
- Detoxification
- Reset your liver
- Increased hydration
My experience
I actually really enjoyed doing this short one day detox. I found it really helped me to stop and take stock of my health for a day. Often I just mindlessly consume coffee, tea and refined sugars without even thinking twice! And on the go, I know I definitely don’t get in enough vegetables every day.
Not having coffee is tough for me, so whenever I cut out coffee I feel a bit grumpy and like my day hasn’t even started. But, because it was just one day it wasn’t too difficult. Now, I am not one of those girls who love green juice. Unless it just has spinach in it and the rest is fruits, I don’t like it. Vegetables like celery, cucumber and kale I generally do not enjoy in smoothies at all! However, the Green King (Kale, Celery, Spinach, Cucumber, Apple and Lemon) was actually one of my favorite smoothies! You could hardly taste the vegetables at all and it was really refreshing. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Both of the orange juices, especially the Glow, were delicious. I could easily start my day with the Glow every morning!
The only juices I didn’t enjoy too much were the ones with Beetroot in them. I don’t eat beetroot even as a cooked vegetable so maybe it was a mental thing for me. I always get this earthy aftertaste. However, beetroot is super healthy so I sucked it up and drank them!
I felt energetic throughout the day and didn’t feel too hungry either. All in all, it was a pleasant experience for me and one I definitely like to incorporate maybe once per month.

Tips for your juice detox
- Pick a day (or if you’re doing a three or five day juice detox, a few days!) that fit well into your schedule. Don’t plan a juice detox over days when you have a get together or lunch dates. It’s hard to sit there and be the poor soul sipping on water. You want this to be most effective, so sit down and look at your calendar. Plan for a week that is relatively quiet or where you don’t have too many commitments.
- Schedule the times you’ll drink each juice. There are six juices for each day, so plan a rough timeline in your mind to make sure you get them all in.
- Two to three days before, start cutting down on caffeine. Otherwise, the day/ three days will feel awful and you’ll probably feel a little irritable
- After your detox, don’t head straight to McDonalds. Keep the healthy flow by consuming plenty of vegetables, drinking water and cutting out refined sugars!
From my above experiences and how I felt on the day, I’m definitely thinking about setting aside one day per month to do a detox!
So, there you have it! That about sums up my one day juice detox for you guys. Have you ever done a juice detox? What was your experience?
*Disclaimer- I was sent this one day juice detox from Royal Juice as a trade exchange. There was no promise of a positive review, this is just a retelling of my personal experience. If you are pregnant, have diabetes or are on prescribed medication, please consult a GP before going on a juice detox.
These sound great! Definitely what I need

I am so keen to do a juice detox. It sounds like an especially good idea now when I’m coming off this awful medication I’ve been on – cleanse my system and give it a kickstart again. I need to look into who offers them up our side, as I would ideally like to do a 3 day one…
