Wanna know what you can win? The grand prize is a trip for two to Zanzibar!
All about Zanzibar
Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago situated off the coast of East Africa. The tropical island is synonymous with turquoise water, warm temperatures and palm lined beaches, and this historical island is filled with hoards of fun activities. Holiday makers can enjoy the local markets, go on spice tours, spot the incredible ocean wildlife on a snorkel adventure and even take a trip to the famous Mnarani Marine Turtles Conservation Pond.
Zanzibar is also known to be a culinary delight. Besides the huge array of fresh seafood and their infamous spices and flavors, visitors can also take a trip to Stonetown. Stonetown boasts some fabulous restaurants and markets, including the popular Forodhani market. Could you picture a more perfect holiday destination? I mean, who wouldn’t want to be sipping cocktails on their white shores! I don’t know about you but I think I’m ready to book my tickets anyway. Luckily with Travelstart you can get return flights to Zanzibar any time of year!
Ah, to be a kid again!
I was challenged by Travel Start to share one of my favourite childhood memories. Immediately it got me thinking about all my amazing happy memories I have as a kid on family holidays. Did you know I’m one of six children? I have three sisters and two brothers! So growing up, family holidays were really fun (and really loud!) occasions. My parents always did such a great job of planning family getaways. I have so many fond memories of family road trips up the Wild Coast in our VW Kombi.
One of our favorite spots was Morgans Bay – a beautiful beach town about an hour past East London. Every time we went there, we would rent a different house either alongside the river mouth or the beach side. One of the greatest things about the Wild Coast is how untouched it is. Pure, natural beauty with long coastlines. These were before the days of social media – so holidays were just about swimming, playing board games and roasting marshmellows on the fire.
Family holidays to Morgans Bay
Our family trips to Morgans Bay were always jam packed with adventurous activities. Whether it was hiking, canoeing or catching prawns in the river – everyone was involved and everything was a competition. My dad would always take us fishing and there was nothing more satisfying as a kid coming home with bounty. Some days we would even cook our fish on the braai!
One of my favorite memories was my dad teaching us how to catch prawns late at night in the river mouth. We must have come home around 1am (Which is very late when you are ten years old!) and we had so many little prawns to cook the next day. And as you can imagine, playing board games with six children can get pretty rowdy and intensive. Some of my siblings still don’t like playing board games such as Monopoly because of all the heated moments we had when we were little.
Now that we’re all older, coordinating a big family holiday is really difficult! I really hope we’re all able to share a holiday on the Wild Coast together again one day. But luckily I have all these amazing memories to look back on with my brothers and sisters. What are some of your fondest memories as a kid? Why not take part in the challenge and share your best childhood moments? Don’t forget to tag me so I can read all your funny stories!
What are you waiting for?
There’s not just a trip to Zanzibar at stake. Weekly winners will win flight vouchers worth R1000 and there’s also a Ryze Tello Minidrone (courtesy of Action Gear) up for grabs! The competition will run until the 7th of July, so you better get cracking. I think it’s time to light up your competitive jets, unleash your inner child and #BeAKidAgain!
