We already have eyelash curlers, lash extensions, eyelash enhancers, permanent makeup. What more can you add to the pile? A lash lift, my friend. Say hello to the eyelash extensions long-lost cousin and she is here to stay.
Recently I was contacted by Tam, who owns a salon called Queen Bee in Cape Town about coming in for a lash lift. I chatted about it on my Instagram and I immediately had a few of you asking for more information on a lash lift and what it all entails – so here goes ladies!
What is a lash lift?
In essence, it’s a perm for your eyes! Basically a solution is applied that semi-permanently curls the lashes up, very similar to the effect of a lash curler but with way more staying power. It differs from eyelash extensions in that it essentially takes the natural hairs you do have lining your lid and gives them a dramatic curl. The treatment instantly gives your natural lashes lift, separation, and extra definition too. This procedure is semi-permanent and may last you two months.
Who would love a lash lift?
If you have naturally straight or flat lashes, this is a good option for you to try. Additionally, if you’re not interested in the time-consuming upkeep of lash extensions, then a lash lift might be just perfect!

How I found the process
I found the process really relaxing and not uncomfortable at all. Tam talked me through the whole process and how long each part would take. It didn’t take too long- just over an hour including the tinting! There was no discomfort afterwards and I was able to go on with my day straight away. The results were perfectly curled lashes right from the base of the eye. I love that there is very little maintenance or upkeep – once done you can go on as normal! The lift basically lasts until your eyelashes fall out naturally.
Pictured here is the procedure. Medical-grade glue is used to attach a silicone rod on your eyelid. Then, they will glue the tips of your lashes to the rod to create the shape for the curl,. The blue solution is the setting conditioner (it’s very rich in hydrating ingridients) and the last picture is the tint. Not picture is the perm solution.
Is a lash lift dangerous?
No, a lash lift isn’t dangerous! When done correctly, the technician only touches your lashes so the solution won’t touch your skin or eyes. That’s why it’s always important to go to someone with the proper training.
What does a lash lift cost?
Queen Bee charges R500 for the lash lift, and if you’d like to include a tint it is R575. The results should last around 6 – 8 weeks!
