We all grew up using these intense exfoliating scrubs filled with plastic beads. Thankfully with age I have learnt of the many wonderful chemical exfoliants – glycolic acid being one of them. And recently I started using the Skinderm pure exfoliating glo pads and it was pretty much love at first use. These mild glycolic acid soaked cotton pads are just lovely and leave your skin smooth and glowy.
For a smoother, more radiant complexion
The Skinderm pure exfoliating glo pads contain Glycolic Acid (AHA) as well as Salicylic Acid (BHA) and are suited for all skin types. Because they’re pretty mild in intensity, if you’ve never used glycolic acid and keen to see how it will benefit your skin – you’ll really love these! The instructions say to take two pads per use, but I just use one and my skin still feels incredibly soft afterwards! You can feel how the glycolic acid has helped to slough away those dead skin cells. Gloriously, it reveals a softer, smoother texture underneath.
My only possibly ‘gripe’ might be that I think it would be even better if the pads could come in individual packets. This would make it more travel friendly and double-ensuring the pads stay as full of product as possible, not drying out. Having said that, I still have some glo pads left and they haven’t dried out. So maybe this isn’t an issue!
Using the glo pads
Just take two (or even one!) pads and gently wipe around your face and neck. Make sure your face is cleansed of any makeup first! You may experience very mild tingling if you’ve never used any glycolic acids before and built up your tolerance. But don’t be alarmed if you do, it’s perfectly normal. They are very simple to use and in a few seconds your skin will feel ah-mazing!
..and like always, remember to use sunscreen!
P.S. I absolutely love that this brand is local too!
What is special about glycolic acid?
Where does it come from? Glycolic acid is derived from plants – for example sugar cane, pineapple and sugar beets.
How does it work? It works by actually destroying the bonds between old skin cells, freeing them so they can be sloughed off. It can effectively remove the outermost layer of dead cells from ones complexion, revealing brighter, fresher skin. Because of this, it is considered to be the “holy grail” for exfoliation.
Glycolic Acid is particularly effective because it has the smallest molecular size of all the AHAs. This allows it to penetrate the skin the most easily. Additionally, Glycolic Acid has also been shown to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This means that with continuous use, Glycolic Acid can assist with the acceleration of skin healing and the reduction of signs of environmental damage.
And what about Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic Acid is a BHA. BHA’s have an ability to penetrate deep into the skin, going into the hair follicles and exfoliate the pores. During this process they are able to get rid of dead skin cells.
