The Dermalogica BioLumin-C has seriously been one of my favorite products this year- and I’ll explain why. I’ll be honest with you- I’ve loved makeup since as far back as I can remember. And that’s great- every person has their hobby I guess and makeup has always been mine. But wearing makeup for so long has its downsides too- you get so used to how you look with makeup, you almost don’t like how you look without it. I think this is true for people especially like me, who have battled with bad skin in the past such as teenage acne, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. So for years I’ve looked at girls who wear little-to-no makeup with confidence and wished I could feel that way too- completely relaxed with a bare faced look.
Making skincare changes
I know that the biggest issue to be dealt with is actually self acceptance- being happy no matter what your skin looks like! Because really who cares if you have a few scars or uneven skin tone. But alongside a change in mindset, I also decided I wanted to focus more on a good skincare routine in 2018. I’ve never hesitated to drop hard earned money on the latest mascaras or eyeshadows, but haven’t felt the same enthusiasm with skincare. However, after using a few really good quality products this year (and seeing the results)- I’m finally a skincare convert. These days I’m actually spending more time in the skincare aisle than cosmetics!
Two particular products / changes I’ve made have made a big difference. One is realizing my skin was not dry, but rather dehydrated. Incorporating hyalauronic acid into my skincare has helped heaps with this. A great option that I really enjoy for this is the Neutrogena Hydroboost range. It’s really affordable and I’ve seen a noticeable difference in the appearance of my skin. Secondly – it’s Vitamin C!
Incorporating Dermalogica BioLumin-C into my skincare routine
The other product that has made the most noticeable difference has been introducing Vitamin C, specifically the Dermalogica BioLumin-C serum.
What are the benefits of Vitamin C?
Vitamin C is a powerful vitamin that has been growing in popularity for it’s ability to naturally improve skin, fight signs of aging and improve collagen production.
Vitamin C helps protect your skin against sun damage. And, because it is an antioxidant, it naturally helps to strengthen your skin and repel things that could damage it. It’s one of the more effective products for treating pigmentation and lightening darker spots. AKA brightening the complexion – don’t we all want a bright, glowy complexion?!

Dermalogica BioLumin-C
The Dermalogica BioLumin-C works with the skin, delivering advanced ingredients that enhance skin’s natural defenses to brighten, firm and defend. Advanced bio-technology fuses ultra-stable Vitamin C and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, helping to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also enhances the skin’s own defenses – giving you brighter skin from within!
Dermalogica BioLumin-C Key Ingredients:
- Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate protects against free radical damage and helps even skin tone.
- Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate, one of the most stable and penetrative forms of Vitamin C that helps firm skin and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 firms skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Lactic Acid removes dulling debris, revealing brighter skin.
- Sophora Japonica Flower Extract a rich source of polyphenols with antioxidant protection.
- Salvia Hispanica (Chia Seed) Oil, rich in antioxidants, moisturizes and helps quench free radicals.
How does the Dermalogica BioLumin C differ from it’s competitors?
The BioLumin-C Serum was formulated with advanced technology to deliver more Vitamin C into the skin. According to Dermalogica, the product delivers three times more Vitamin C into the skin than leading competitors!
Where does this fit in my skincare routine?
You apply the Vitamin C serum after toning and before moisturizing.
How much does it cost and where can I buy it from?
The product retails for R1,495.00 for a 30ml bottle. I know this is quite pricey, but because it is potent a little goes a long way. I’m six weeks into using the product, and I’ve only used around 20% of the bottle. You can purchase online from Dermalogica themselves, or you can purchase from the physical Dermalogica stores as well as Sorbet. I saw on their website that they are currently offering free shipping.
What changes have I seen with my skin
Believe me, I do not say this lightly (because I hate seeing people talk about a product that changes your life- I mean, seriously!) but this product has seriously improved my skin texture and tone. I’ve noticed some of the pigmentation (Especially around my chin and lower cheeks) has improved and is looking much less noticeable. The texture of my skin is much smoother, and just looks generally healthier and happier.
I think I must have gotten more compliments over this last month over my skin than in the last few years. I think this is due to also introducing drinkable collagen into my routine. But the compliments on the texture of my skin and the tone I know is thanks to the Vitamin C. I’ve actually been wearing less foundation the last while than I have in ages. I also haven’t found myself “topping up” my makeup through the day. If it wears off over the day, I find myself to be much happier with how my skin looks and it doesn’t bother me as much.
Because it’s still early days, I’m looking forward to seeing how my skin looks after a few months (and years!) of a great skincare routine. Incorporating retinol is the next step on my list!
Something to note about Vitamin C
Many topical Vitamin C products on the market contain unstable ingredients and may not get to the right place to provide effective results. Be careful with the products you purchase- you want your product to be effective and to see results! Also make sure it’s kept in an air tight container-air exposure if not good for Vitamin C.
And don’t forget sunscreen
When it comes to sun damage- remember that the most vital thing will ALWAYS be wearing sunscreen. I recommend wearing SPF50 everyday on your skin. Even in summer or winter! Honestly this is something that I incorporated on a much greater scale in 2018 and already it is routine for me now. I used to just be really disciplined in summer, but now I’ve made it a habit (finally, only took 26 years!) and I’m feeling proud!
Have a great week my friends xx
Ah, I haven’t used any of their products yet.

Hi Deruschka! I use the Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart SPF50 (love it, works so well with makeup) but I’ve heard Heliocare is also fantastic. It will be my next purchase for sure!
The drinkable collagen you can find the review here: https://sincerelyblonde.com/2018/08/27/i-tried-collagen-lift-paris-for-a-month-and-heres-what-i-thought/
