Microneedling at the Laser Beautique with a Coolifting facial

Recently I was invited to have a session of microneedling at the Laser Beautique as well as to experience their Coolifting facial. The Coolifting facial is a new, noninvasive solution for facial rejuvenation. It can be added onto a microneedling treatment to help calm and soothe the skin. I was very intrigued to say the least! Personally, I’m a huge fan of microneedling and have seen great results from just two treatments! It’s definitely gaining popularity around the world for the treatment of fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars,

Many people have misconceptions about microneedling. So I think a great starting point will be to discuss what it actually is and what it’s function. I decided to take a video of my experience to share with you guys:

What is microneedling?

For a very simple explanation, microneedling is the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purposes of rejuvenation. Before you begin, it’s important to first put on an anesthetic cream reduce pain and keep you comfortable during the procedure. Essentially, the very fine needles are used to create tiny micro channels in the top layers of the skin. This then triggers the body to produce new collagen and elastin.

How does microneedling benefit your skin?

As your skin starts to repair itself, it increases the body’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin help to make the skin look more firm and plump. Microneedling also helps to improve skin’s texture, reduce the appearance of scars and create a more even skin tone.

How I found my microneedling experience at the Laser Beautique?

I did my session with Stephanie who is not only extremely friendly, but very knowledgeable as well! She talked me through the whole process, explained each part and was so professional. It’s important to make sure you go to a properly trained therapist as microneedling done incorrectly could damage your skin.

The parts of your face with more bone (and less fat) are more painful, so your forehead and chin can be the worst. However if you’re like me and have a bit of cheeks – the rest of your face shouldn’t be too sore at all.

I’m one of those girls who go read very quickly (An eyebrow wax can look pretty scary!). However,  the redness went down within one to hours and my face didn’t feel too painful at all. My skin was still a bit sensitive for a day or two afterwards, but looked a lot better than I expected! Remember, normal side effects which you can expect from microneedling include a bit of bruising or bleeding as well as peeling.

Results

Within one to two weeks, my skin looked incredibly clear and smooth. The texture had really improved and I was receiving so many compliments about how amazing my skin was looking! In fact, I was so happy with the results that I decided I will definitely be doing one or two more microneedling sessions.  Reason being is I’ve heard that 3-4 sessions can give really fantastic results. My skin tone looks a lot smoother already, so I can only imagine how totally fabulous it would look after four sessions.

My skin looked absolutely amazing around Christmas!! I couldn’t believe how smooth and flawless it looked. And when I applied foundation, it just looked incredible on.

What is CooLifting and how does it help the microneedling experience?

CooLifting is a quick treatment that combines a concentration of hyaluronic acid and other botanicals with cold, carbon dioxide. The combination is then sprayed directly onto the skin.  If you’re a bit confused by the C02, it helps the hyaluronic solution to saturate more completely and deeply into your skin. This makes the hyalauronic acid more effective.

How does this help the skin appearance?

Skin exposed to high concentrations of carbon dioxide naturally responds by releasing more oxygen to the area, giving it a plumped appearance. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical in your body that helps replenish moisture and promotes healing. During CooLifting, the cool CO2 mist activates the serum to penetrate more deeply then it could on its own.

And how does it help with microneedling?

CooLifting is helpful after microneedling as it helps a lot to replenish the moisture that is lost after a microneedling session. This was a result I could attest to. I thought my skin looked a lot calmer than I expected and didn’t feel as tight.

Thinking of getting microneedling?

You guys know I’m a huge makeup fan, but nothing beats the results of good skincare. Last year was the first time ever that I felt confident to wear no makeup out in public. Sounds dramatic, I know! Having a good skincare routine and incorporating chemical peels and some microneedling sessions literally worked wonders.

Even though it’s a minimally invasive procedure and very safe, it’s highly advised to go to a professional who has a lot of experience with this treatment.  Perhaps even schedule a consultation beforehand and discuss your skin concerns and develop a plan.  If you are considering going for your first session, I can highly recommend you do your microneedling at the Laser Beautique.  If you’re based in Cape Town, chat to Stephanie at the Seapoint branch. Otherwise, they have other branches throughout the country too.

Going into 2019, skincare is definfately still high up on my list of things to focus on.
